I haven’t travelled much myself, will that matter?

It can help, but if you have a passion for travel you too can succeed to get a foot in the door. Maybe check Google Earth for info on any city/airport you are not familiar with. Many personnel left the industry during the Covid-19 pandemic so there will be opportunities for well trained and knowledgeable prospective staff members going forward.

How do I enrol for a course?

You enrol for a course by clicking on the “Enrol Now” buttons next to the course you wish to enrol in.

This will take you to a secure payments area where you enter your details and credit card information. You will receive a confirmation email of your payment and within 24 hours you will receive a Student Profile which we ask you to complete for our records and return to us.

What happens next?

We e-mail any codes you need to access the course/s along with some further instructions and end of course assessment requirements.

Refund Policy

As each course can be accessed in its entirety from first log in, a refund request can only be actioned if received within 24 hours of first log in with a maximum of under one hour’s usage. There will be a cancellation fee of AUD55.00 per request to cover administration. If you are not sure, request a 2 hour sampler for AUD50.00 which is non-refundable.

Lost Certificate Search Fee

For past graduates. A lost certificate search attracts a $55.00 AUD search fee for confirmation letter.

What are the system requirements to run the courses?

- Broadband Internet access with low latency

- Device with a minimum screen resolution of 1366 x 768 and a separate keyboard

- Desktop Browsers: Firefox 62 or higher, Google Chrome 69 or higher, Safari 11.1 or higher

- Mobile Browsers: Safari 11.4 or higher, Android Browser 67 or higher, Chrome for Android 71 or higher, Firefox for Android 64 or higher

- Flash required for Corporate/Business Travel course

Will I receive a certification on course completion?

Depending on whether it’s a long or short course you will receive a Certificate of Competence or a Certificate of Completion. You will be advised on receipt of your access codes of any requirements for each course.

Successful completion of a course requires scores of over 80% in all quizzes, tests and assessments. After the first attempt, you must advise Hayton so we can provide any feedback before you retake the assessments, if you gain 80%+ on your first attempt you may move on with confidence.

Can I pay in instalments?

As most of our courses are single units and the course fees are very keenly priced, we do require full payment on registration as you get immediate access to all course content.

The Special Offers are usually 2 or 3 course packages which can be taken separately. So, while slightly more expensive taken separately you can then stagger the cost of your training.

How much time must I spend studying each week?

This is totally up to you, but we advise one lesson every one or two days if you can manage that.

If you do a 45-hour comprehensive GDS course with worksheets, we suggest an online lesson one day and the worksheet revision and exercises the next to consolidate the content. Probably 4 to 6 hours a week will enable you to finish most courses within the designated timeframes.

Will I receive support if I have any questions while completing the course?

The course is well-paced and has a very clear progression, most students have no issues completing the programs but of course, sometimes questions crop up or help is required.

All you need do is e-mail us at [email protected] and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Can I access the course at any time?

Yes, morning or afternoon or in the evening, whatever suits you best!

You do need to be able to set aside a certain amount of time each day or every second day for optimal benefit of the interactive skills courses. If you leave too long between lesson times you may forget material and have to revise lessons thus wasting time that could be better spent.

Some people study only every weekend and still do very well, a passion to find work in the Travel Industry certainly helps.

Do I need a Travel Agents’ licence to work in the agency sector?

From 2014 there has been no requirement to hold a Travel Agent’s licence and anyway, it was mandated for the designated licence holder for the agency, usually an owner or manager not a requirement for staff.

I haven’t studied online before-will I get some Training Tips?

Yes, each course participant will receive pre-course information e-mailed with the User ID and Password for course access and each course has a navigation tutorial to assist in a seamless interactive training experience.

What you mean by skills based “interactive”?

Our online GDS courses will first teach you the skill of making airline seat reservations, fare quoting and e-ticketing. The course lessons explain what is done and then you will actually practise doing it in a simulated area called the emulator which exactly replicates the work environment. It’s a “hands-on” course where you use industry airline, city and airport codes and learn to make, retrieve, cancel, amend and ticket international air itineraries just the way travel industry professionals do.

What skills and knowledge will I need to start applying for jobs?

Good PC and keyboarding skills plus customer relations and personal travel experience all help.

It’s also a good idea to start building up your knowledge and skills base so, if you don’t know much about the industry, why not start with the Beginners Basics program? Then follow up with an interactive, skills based Amadeus or Sabre or Galileo GDS course where you will learn how to make client bookings, quote airfares and issue airline e-tickets. If you want to work at the airport check-in area you need to understand how to use the Departure Control System best taken after an Amadeus GDS course.

What sort of timeframe am I looking at before I can apply for jobs?

Once you have successfully completed a GDS Quick Course or 45- hour comprehensive course with downloadable worksheets and have been issued with a statement of competence then you may actively start applying for jobs. It’s worth remembering that at an interview you may be asked to prove your new skills, so think about a 4 to 6-month timeframe if you are taking the course while working.

Of course, you may move more quickly if you are not currently working or have a flexible timetable.

What are my chances of getting a job after the course?

If you successfully complete the course material, receive a certificate of competence, prepare a good CV, have travelled personally and have good PC and keyboard skills you have a very good chance of finding a position.

We recommend you take any job you are offered, gain some experience, wait at least a year and then look at what is available for someone with your skills. If you need to brush up your GDS skills, then do so with the relevant course.

Of course, after Covid-19 things are different and there may be many more jobs available as some travel personnel did leave the industry during airline and agency shutdowns and travel is predicted to boom again. If you do not know much about the Travel Industry we recommend the Beginners Basic course to give you the background knowledge so useful on the job.

To get a first job in travel, how many of these courses should I take?

If you have good PC and keyboarding skills, have had a job with customer service experience and some personal travel experience, it should not be too difficult to enter the travel industry.

We suggest you learn about the travel industry on our Beginners Basics and then take a GDS course, 45-hour the Galileo and Sabre or Amadeus GDS courses with worksheets are great for beginners. Completing one of these courses will give you the knowledge and the skills to apply confidently for an entry level position in an agency or tour operator.

English is not my first language, will that matter?

If you have studied English at school or university and have a competent knowledge you will be fine.

We have staff who are English as a Second Language trained who, if required, will be able to assess whether the course will suit you. We have students from all around the world, very few have ever had a problem as the courses are really in the universal travel language of easily understood codes.

If you want to work in travel and your English is not of a very high standard, we suggest you take further studies as improved English speaking skills will help you get a job – anywhere in the world. And remember, English is the language of aviation and tourism worldwide!
